Carbon brushes for DC motors in traction and process equipment

Mersen offers a wide range of electrographitic brushes, particularly adapted to DC motors, of which world-renowned EG34D and EG8220 brush grades.

Electrographitic grades are prepared from carbon powders and coke; they are then subjected to high temperature thermal treatments (>2500 °C) to transform the basic amorphous carbon into artificial graphite.

Our research efforts result in brush materials which provide greater commutating ability, longer life, and reduced commutator maintenance. Mersen produces advanced brush grades for service conditions ranging from high loads to low loads, environments contaminated (chemicals, moisture, oil vapors), and other difficult operating conditions. Mersen, as a reference supplier of electric motor manufacturers, also offers dedicated services of refurbishment, replacement of brushes and brush-holders, re-engineering and trainings.

Mersen offers a wide range of carbographitic and bakelite-graphite brushes for FHP motors.

Carbographitic grades are prepared from carbon and coke powders (natural or artificial) agglomerated with appropriate binders to give them good resistance to high temperature and variable loads.

Bakelite-graphite grades are made from natural or artificial graphite powders agglomerated with a thermo-hardening resin to give them a high electrical and mechanical resistance power.

Mersen offers a wide range of metal graphite brushes, particularly adapted to asynchronous motors with wound rotor used in paper and cement plants.

Metal graphite brushes grades are prepared from purified natural graphite and metal powders (copper, silver…); then they are compressed and baked to bring them to the required solidity and cohesion levels.
